Dr. Jania Amir-Razavi started her career in 2006 as a special treatment counselor at a locked psychiatric facility, where she later became the Program Director.
Since then, she has worked as a therapist in behavioral health hospitals, school settings, treatment centers for substance use, and private practice. She has also worked as a case manager providing services to the San Diego County Conservator's Office, and has provided therapy specific to addiction using a non-12-step model.
Biography
Dr. Razavi completed her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, after completing her M.A. in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University. Her interest in attending the California Institute of Integral Studies was to explore the concept of integrating Eastern and Western psychology.
She believes in providing compassionate psychotherapy to individuals, families, and couples, and works to individualize each treatment to fit the client's needs. As a result her treatment approach varies, drawing from psychodynamic, family systems, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness-based approaches. Although her approach varies, she firmly believes in the importance of getting to know the whole person and their uniqueness, and removing labels and judgments associated with it.
She has helped people with a wide range of problems including depression, anxiety, interpersonal relationship issues, sexual concerns, substance use and harm, and the process of coming to terms with difficult and traumatic life situations. The approach offered extends further in helping people discover and develop a more lively and authentic sense of self, which in turn brings a sense of deeper meaningfulness and engagement in life.
Vision statement
To inspire growth and resiliency, create a joyful and balanced life based on one's values, and live mindfully, free of suffering.
Mission statement
Psychology Center of ACH strives to create a safe, accepting, and nurturing space by cultivating a non-judgmental environment in order to safely explore the source of the pain and suffering one is experiencing. The goal is to be able to safely explore without judgment, resulting in necessary change and growth, in order to achieve one's full potential.
As an integrative therapist with a humanistic framework, I look at the whole person and their uniqueness as an individual in all their complexity, in order to be successful in understanding the root causes of their problems or distress. The goals are not determined by the theoretical frame but by the client, based on their presenting problems, desire, and motivation. The heart of the therapy here is in the therapeutic relationship and collaboration โ to understand the problem and symptoms, and work on acceptance and letting go of what no longer serves.
